Nanci and Ken Powell adopted their first Afghan Hound in 1984 from Pet Orphan Fund in the San Fernando Valley of California.

After their first experience with an Afghan Hound they recognized a need to educate the public about the special requirements of this amazing breed.

Nanci and Ken’s second Afghan Hound was an owner relinquished dog who came to them covered in ticks!

One owner relinquished dog led to another and having as many as 11 Afghan Hounds at one time!

It wasn’t long before county animal shelters began to call Nanci because they knew of her affinity for, and knowledge of the breed.

Nanci and Ken established World Animal Rescue, INC., a 501(c)(3) a non-profit organization in 1999.

Today Nanci and Ken live with a “doxie“, a terrier, a tortoise and 2 swans.
